Day 24

The League of the Merchant Helpers asked me to attend a workshop on Design Trends for 2011. This is a crash course on Art, specifically on interior design and color management.

Visual arts is new for me. I was definitely shocked when people commended my "elementary" drawings as they call it pop-art (come on!). Well, why not consider the possibility that one day, I could be an artist (laughs).

The speaker talked about 5 Design Trends for 2011. It includes the following:

1. Expression - based from what I have learned, Expressionism refers to the ethnicity of an artwork. It could be part of ancient art which was revived for modern use. This is where tradition and culture collide.

2. Vegetation - this refers to nature and it's by-products. They make use of twigs, trees, branches, plants, vines, birds, etc. Flowers are part of vegetation as well. Worn and rusty metal is also considered art from the Vegetation Trend.

3. Relaxation- this refers to a more feminine art. It make use of soft colors, natural materials and delicate feminine touches. This focus on comfort and sense of well-being.

4. Oscillation- is my favorite. This refers to noisy art. It is lively and captivating. It is fancy, lively, exciting, sunny, glossy, cool with a touch of 80s. In oscillation, colors changes as angle view changes.

5. Impression - this is the opposite of expressionism. This art is more futuristic. This is the wildest of the arts. It plays around with contrasts, weird shapes, and plays with geometric patterns and textures.

Mr. Val Padilla gave a little talk about Interior Trends of 2010 and I was caught with the REHAB trend. This trend refers to the meeting of east and west, high-tech and low-tech, relaxation and noise, black and white. I was inspired with the definition of the said trend in the modules given to us. Let me quote:

" The end was predictable and yet the pace and vigour of change has taken us all by surprise. In effect, nothing less than a paradigm shift. There's no help to be found and more in mere therapeutic doses of medicine. What we need is a complete shutdown. There is so much in disarray. The world around us is out of joint and things have just got out of hand. It is now a question of getting right back to fundamentals. Just cutting off a few old plaits here and there is not going to be enough. What is really needed is a radical demolition of the old idols, so that we can breathe freely again: lets have the revolution first and then start afresh with a new beginning"

HAVE A REVOLUTION FIRST, THEN A NEW BEGINNING!
